Jake Paul delivers his verdict on Katie Taylor’s controversial win over Amanda Serrano

Katie Taylor secured a controversial unanimous decision victory against Amanda Serrano

  • Taylor was given the nod despite being outlanded and having a point deducted

Jake Paul has claimed that Amanda Serrano deserved to get the nod in her clash with Katie Taylor on Friday night.

The women’s undisputed light-welterweight clash served as the co-main event for Paul’s controversial showdown with Mike Tyson at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Just two years after they made history as the first women ever to headline a boxing match at Madison Square Garden, the pair once again locked horns inside the ring in front of a worldwide audience on Netflix.

Much like their first fight, Serrano proved the more active of the two fighters, while the defending champion Taylor was more economical with her punches.

A pair of head clashes that opened a large cut above Serrano’s right eye saw Taylor deducted a point in the eighth round but the Irish fighter ultimately prevailed, winning 95-94 on all three judges’ scorecards.

The decision proved hugely contentious online, with Paul, who serves as Serrano’s promoter through his Most Valuable Promotions group, particularly aggrieved.

Paul shared a graphic image of the cut Serrano sustained during the clash on social media

Writing on X (formerly Twitter), Paul insisted: ‘Amanda Serrano Won. She’s the biggest star in women’s combat sports.’

Fresh of his big win over Tyson in Friday’s main event, Paul claimed Serrano’s cut was just the second of her career and offered a bizarre concept for a trilogy bout between the pair.

He added: ‘Amanda Serrano has 51 pro fights. She has been cut in just 2 of those fights. Both against Katie Taylor.

‘Only solution is to run the trilogy in MMA @PFLMMA’

In addition to her 51-fight career inside the ring, Serrano has previously competed in mixed martial arts and submission grappling.

In 2018 she made her MMA debut, fighting to a three-round draw with Corina Herrera before recording a pair of victories to take her overall record inside the cage to 2-0-1.

Unlike Serrano however, Taylor has never competed in MMA.

Meanwhile Serrano took to social media to express her disappointment with the decision writing: ‘I landed 107 more punches, she got a point deducted and I lost 95-94 lmfao’

However, she later clarified her comments and insisted that she did not intend any disrespect towards her opponent.

‘Congratulations to @KatieTaylor in her decision win.’ Serrano wrote on X.

‘Tempers are flared when you’re in the heat of battle & you say things you shouldn’t say. I’m not one to ever disrespect an opponent & these were never my intentions to Katie.

‘She & I are cool outside the ring and the best dance partners in the ring. In no way should I ever had said she did it purposely, it’s her style that makes for them.

‘I’m Not perfect and tho I try my hardest to be the nicest person I can be I’m human & being emotionally hurt can sometimes misguide you in what you say. I’m ok, I’m healthy a bit bruised and cut but still blessed beyond belief.

‘We both came out with our health intact & that’s what I prayed for. Whenever our teams can agree on a Trilogy I’ll be ready.

‘I hope you guys all enjoyed women’s boxing at its highest level.’
