Newcastle United beat visitors Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 after an energetic Sunday afternoon clash at St James’ Park looked destined for a draw.
Newcastle winger Harvey Barnes opened scoring in the 37th minute for the hosts, while Toon centre-back Dan Burn lifted another into the roof of his own net on the 56th minute.
Both goals looked to be enough to earn a point for Newcastle after Tottenham dominated most of the second half.
But a rare break from the hosts and Spurs’ foul-up from Romero allowed substitute Jacob Murphy to sidefoot to Alexander Isak for a tap-in into an empty net on the 78th minute.
