Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has sealed a £25 million ($33 million) move to Serie A side Napoli, both clubs announced hours before Friday’s transfer deadline.
The Scotland international, 27, was keen to secure more regular first-team football. He made 43 appearances last season, although many of those came from off the bench.
Both Fulham and Everton were interested in the midfielder this summer, but a source told ESPN he has been reluctant to join another Premier League club. The move to Napoli ends his over 20-year association with United, who he joined at the aged six.
“McTominay will be missed by everyone at the club and leaves with our best wishes as he embarks on a new chapter of his career in Italy,” United said in a statement.
He was swarmed by Napoli fans when he landed in Naples on Thursday ahead of his medical. His move to club sees him rejoin forces with former United teammate Romelu Lukaku, who joined the Serie A side from Chelsea on a permanent tranfer on Thursday.
