Emma Raducanu has been dumped out of the US Open in the first round of the women’s singles – three years on from her Flushing Meadows miracle.
Raducanu won the title in New York at the age of just 18, but her injury-hit year got worse on Tuesday night after she lost 1-6, 6-3, 4-6 to Sofia Kenin.
Raducanu had not played for nearly a month heading into the tournament, and looked rusty on the Grandstand court, winning just a single game in the first set.
The Brit, 21, will pick up $100,000 in prize money, while Kenin moves on to face either Shelby Rogers or Jessica Pegula in the second round.
More to follow.
