- The legendary Formula One interviewer clashed with Kylian Mbappe’s staff
- Martin Brundle was trying to interview the French footballer at the Monaco GP
- Brundle told the security member ‘I’m in charge around here’ on the grid
Sky Sports presenter Martin Brundle was involved in another heated exchange on the Formula One grid as he clashed with a member of Kylian Mbappe‘s security team.
Being interviewed by the former F1 driver is very much a rite of passage for celebrities in attendance at races, with Brundle keen to get a word with Mbappe before the Monaco GP got underway.
The 25-year-old football superstar was in Monaco just hours after winning the French Cup in his final game with Paris Saint-Germain and was a huge focus while walking down the grid.
However, despite Brundle politely trying to approach Mbappe, a security guard attempted to block his way by sticking out an arm and trying to push him away.
Brundle was nonplussed by the interaction and warned the individual not to try and push him away, hilariously stating: ‘It’s alright mate I’m in charge around here.’

Mbappe appeared not to recognise the interaction and kept walking as Brundle – gripping his microphone – continued to match his stride amongst a congested tarmac.
The security guard continued to stand his ground as Brundle tried to get closer to Mbappe, stating: ‘Kylian, Martin Brundle, Sky F1. I think he’s happy to talk’.
Mbappe finally recognised Brundle, leaning in to listen what he was being asked and trying to deflect the questions, explaining: ‘I am just here for the race’, but wasn’t let off the hook that easily.
The 64-year-old interviewer then tried a different tactic by joking with Mbappe that the former World Cup winner – who is one of the quickest players in the game – could beat the 200+mph F1 cars in a race to Monaco’s first corner.
Mbappe laughed at the suggestion before replying: ‘No, no I’m not faster than the cars. I just want to be here like a fan and enjoy the moment.’

The exchange then ended with Brundle aiming a parting dig at the previously mentioned security staffer, stating: ‘Thanks for joining us, and your dear friend there.’
Social media flooded with reaction at Brundle’s interaction with Mbappe’s protection details, with one F1 fan stating: ‘Sometimes I think the gimmick of the grid walk has worn off then Martin Brundle delivers something like this.’
Another comment similarly added: ‘I thought it was compulsory now to speak to Martin (if he wants you to) if you’re on the grid?’.
The moment drew similarities to a moment at the F1 Grand Prix in Texas two-years ago when he clashed with security detail protecting American rapper Megan Thee Stallion.
